FINAL MAXIAVALANCHE EUROP CUP Flims(Ch) - October 15 & 16 2011
The stage of Flims closed the great season of Maxiavalanche Europ Cup.
You can see all results here.
Thank you for your participation and hope to see you in 2012!
Final preparations for the final of the Maxiavalanche Europ Cup in Flims, on October the 15th and 16th, will be not relaxing for the Organizing Committee.
In fact, we recorded snowfall last weekend. Platform of start of the race is now covered with a meter of snow.
These falls are unusual for the season following a very dry period. This will allow the soil to absorb much of the snowpack.
A crisis meeting was already scheduled to consider the intervention of machines capable of generating the necessary area. For that riders have still much fun on the track now recognized of Flims, while enjoying sports field conditions, particularly in terms of overtaking.
The reputation of the Europ Cup Maxiavalanche Flims, and the quality of its course, establishes a record of participation, especially for the moments of the season. It's a little more than 300 participants that will be spread over the four rounds of qualifying race to determine their positions in the group level: Top 100: Maxiavalanche Europ Cup
The following 150: Maxi Challengers
The following 150: Maxi Amateurs
In the LADIES category, there has been another record for participation, will be 30 to spring on a type of race that is rarely as popular in this category.
The formula Maxiavalanche Europ Cup is a Marathon DH whose departures are online. They have the same intensity, and are as spectacular as a starting motocross. Rubbing elbows, the melee almost necessary to extricate the pack to position themselves in search of ideal trajectory, are all factors that impede parity in the entry list, unfortunately for the players of these sports competitions.
Europe Cup's competitors are prestigious. And nothing is played in the final for the podium, although the French Franck PAROLIN (Giant Vertical Bike), 1477 points, became a favorite. Nicolas LAU (Cube Bike), 1242 points, will do anything, since it has nothing to lose, to get the points which are missing to win in front of the Giant rider.
The Swiss, lovers of the World Cup of Cross Country, like the brothers Lucas and Mathias FLÜECKIGER, and especially Florian GOLAY (Felt), one of the most experienced European riders in this type of competition, will be monitored. Alex STOCK (Cheshire) wants to prove himself after his accident in Sweden. And the World Champion of 4X, Dan ATHERTON (Commencal), will prove he can do as well and is as good on departures with 4 as departures with 25 on line.

After the Swedish stage, that took place at the end of August in Åre, the best riders, specialists of Descente Marathon, will meet for the third consecutive year on the beautiful course of Flims for the final of the Maxiavalanche Europ Cup 2011.
The Swiss resort of Flims is ideally situated at 1h30 from Zurich, at less than 2 hours from Milan and at just over 5 hours of Nice and Lyon.
This geographical position, and the sporting success of previous editions, has motivated many European riders to participate in this long-awaited Maxiavalanche.
The French, always favorites, will be in force, alongside the Swiss team. The British, as numerous as the Germans, will present their experience in the Enduro. There are also many Italian and Spanish, experienced in this form of competition with the stages of Vallnord in Andorra and Cervinia in Italy.
The stage of Flims is remembered by all those who have driven on this route, as part of a great decorum of one of the most remarkable sights of the Grandes Alpes.
The strength of the Helvetic stage is also serving in lifts to reach the starting platform, as it is in direct connection with the arrival, in the heart of the riders park and 2 particularly welcoming and beautiful terraces.
The route of the Maxiavalanche Flims is more complete: Big fast curves of the cow pasture on the top part, with very large accelerations, and curves with multiple paths in the intermediate part, with alternating clearing, breaks and reverse slopes that are make wonderful springboards and natural’s parabolic.
It then goes on a very technical singletrack, along the slope attention to the roots when it's wet, tangled around the curves of larch trees in the dense forest.
A section of great "North Shore" and the bravura final half-pipe in a green, during which the participants play with the force of gravity almost to the finish at the station.
Current standings leader Europ Cup, Franck PAROLIN (Giant Vertical Bike), 1477 points, will have to conquer a second crown (winner in 2009).
The second, Nicolas LAU (Cube Bike), 1242 points, can still worry the leader, and has prepared especially for this final.
The British Alex STOCK (Cheshire), returns from an injury incurred in Maxiavalanche in Åre, Sweden, but will put all his energy to stay on the podium.
Fourth and fifth, Xavier MAROVELLI (Team Oxybike) and Jordan REGNIER (Team Frejus Roc d'Azur), have very little variation and are particularly fond of the course of Flims.
Neo 4X World Champion, host of World Cup Downhill, Dan Atherton (Commencal), has revenge on his bad results in Sweden. He has the potential to win, but little experience in this type of competition where you have to manage an effort of more than 20 minutes.
Two other first-crossers will defend the host country, the brothers Lucas et Mathias FLÜECKIGER.
other Helvetic rider, also very comfortable on the course of Flims, Florian Golay (Felt), third in 2010.
All these candidates at the podium will also work hard to counter the athletes' experience as Pau JULIA (BMC Andorra) for example.

Saturday afternoon qualifications races. The top 100 are selected for the Maxiavalanche Europ Cup, the 150 following for the Maxi Challengers and other will start in the same conditions and racing on the same course for the Maxi Amateurs.

The ski resorts of Flims, Laax, and Falera Switzerland is one of the largest ski areas in Switzerland with over 200km of pistes on over 100 km2 of hillsides - still enough snow in winter - around the Crap Sogn Gion.
In summer, Flims Laax Falera is a great playground for outdoor leisure assets.
Each of the three villages has specialized in a particular guest group: Flims offers walkers, hikers and winter skiers an extensive network of trails and tracks as well as many hotels "well-being". Falera, with its mansions, has retained the charm of a mountain village. In addition to its sunny location, this makes an ideal place for relaxing family holidays. Laax in particular attracts snowboarders from around the world on its slopes.
Over 250 km of hiking trails lead to countless panoramic lookouts offering views of the mountains of Grisons.
Thanks to the professional Snowboard Freestyle Academy, different snowboarding events, special freeride areas reserved for snowboarders, the halfpipe and the fun park around the Crap Sogn Gion mountain, this holiday has become Mecca snowboarders. Many après-ski activities, parties, bars, concerts and innovative hotels attract many young holidaymakers in the area of Laax.
